YOUTH MOBILITY SCHEME

Live, work and travel in the UK for up to two years

UK Youth Mobility Scheme Visa

The Youth Mobility Scheme (also known as Working Holiday Visa) allows eligible young people from participating countries to live, work and explore the UK — a chance to gain international experience and enjoy British life.

Who this is for

  • Young adults aged 18–30 (or 18–35 for some countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada)

  • Citizens of eligible countries or territories (e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Uruguay, Andorra, Iceland, Monaco, San Marino)

  • British Overseas Citizens, British Overseas Territories Citizens or British Nationals (Overseas)

What you can do

  • Live and work in the UK for up to 2 years (3 years for some nationalities)

  • Work in most jobs, study, and even set up as self-employed (with restrictions)

  • Travel freely in and out of the UK during your visa period

Restrictions

  • Cannot extend beyond 2 (or 3) years

  • Cannot bring dependants — each applicant must qualify on their own

  • Cannot work as a professional sportsperson or coach

  • Cannot access most public funds

What you will need

  • Valid passport from an eligible country

  • Age 18–30 (or 35 depending on nationality) on the date of application

  • £2,530 in savings

  • TB test certificate (if required for your country)

  • Visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

How it works

  1. Check eligibility – confirm nationality, age and savings

  2. Gather documents – passport, financial evidence, TB test certificate

  3. Submit online – apply and pay Home Office fees/IHS

  4. Biometrics – attend visa centre appointment (or use ID app if eligible)

  5. Decision & travel – once granted, you can move to the UK and start your adventure
