BRITISH CITIZENSHIP
Complete your UK journey from settlement to citizenship
British Citizenship
Becoming a British citizen is the final step in your UK immigration journey, granting you full rights to live, work and participate in the UK without immigration restrictions. We help you navigate the different routes, requirements, and application process with confidence.
Who this is for
Individuals who hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Settled Status (EU Settlement Scheme)
Applicants married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen (with at least 3 years’ residence in the UK)
Long-term residents (usually after 5 years + ILR, or 10 years lawful residence route)
Children eligible through registration as British citizens
What we do
Eligibility check – confirm your route to citizenship and timing
Document checklist – passports, residence evidence, Life in the UK test, English language certificate
Application preparation – forms, declarations, referees, uploads and submission
Referees & declarations – guidance on who qualifies and how to meet requirements
Aftercare – advice on the citizenship ceremony and obtaining your first British passport
What you will need
Proof of ILR or Settled Status (e.g. BRP, Home Office status check)
Life in the UK Test pass certificate
English language qualification (unless exempt)
Residence evidence (to show physical presence and absences within limits)
Identity documents (valid passport and current BRP/eVisa)
Referees (two referees meeting Home Office requirements)
(We’ll provide a tailored checklist so you know exactly what to provide.)
How it works
Consultation & plan – check eligibility, route and timing (especially physical presence dates)
Documents & drafting – we prepare your forms, referee declarations, and evidence bundle
Submit & monitor – file application, upload documents, and track progress
Decision & ceremony – attend your citizenship ceremony and apply for your first passport
Timelines & fees
Processing time is usually 3–6 months, depending on Home Office caseload.
Our professional fee is quoted upfront and separately from Home Office fees.
Home Office fees cover application processing and the citizenship ceremony.
FAQs
Do I need ILR before applying?
Yes—most applicants must hold ILR or Settled Status before applying for citizenship.
How long must I have lived in the UK?
Usually 5 years (plus 12 months with ILR/Settled Status). If married to a British citizen, you may apply after 3 years of residence once ILR/Settled Status is held.
What are the residence requirements?
You must not have been absent from the UK for more than 450 days in the 5-year period (or 270 days in the 3-year route), and not more than 90 days in the last 12 months before applying.
Do children apply differently?
Yes—children may qualify for registration as British citizens, often with different rules and no Life in the UK or language test requirement.
What happens after approval?
You attend a citizenship ceremony to receive your certificate of naturalisation. You can then apply for your first British passport.
