ANCESTRY VISAS
Live and work in the UK through your family connection.
UK Ancestry Visas
If you’re a Commonwealth citizen with a UK-born grandparent, the UK Ancestry Visa offers a route to live, work and eventually settle in the UK. We guide you through eligibility, application requirements and the steps to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) and British citizenship.
Who this is for
Citizens of Commonwealth countries (including Zimbabwe and British Overseas Territories)
Applicants aged 17 or over
Individuals with a grandparent born in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man (or, in some cases, born before 31 March 1922 in what is now the Republic of Ireland)
What we do
Eligibility check – confirm your ancestry evidence and requirements
Document checklist – birth/marriage certificates, passports and supporting records
Application preparation – full visa forms, uploads and submission
Dependants – guidance for partners and children applying with you
Settlement pathway – advice on ILR after 5 years and British citizenship
What you will need
Proof of your grandparent’s birth in the UK or qualifying territory
Birth certificates linking you through the generations (parent and grandparent)
Valid passport(s)
Evidence you can work and support yourself in the UK (e.g. bank statements, job offer, qualifications)
TB test results (if required for your country)
(We’ll give you a tailored checklist so you know exactly what to provide.)
How it works
Consultation & plan – check eligibility and outline next steps
Documents & drafting – we prepare the forms and supporting evidence
Submit & monitor – file application, track progress, handle queries
Decision & next steps – move to the UK, prepare for extension or ILR after 5 years
Timelines & fees
Processing times vary by country and service level; priority/super priority may be available in some locations. Our professional fee is quoted upfront and separately from Home Office fees and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
